Kalel Mullings 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Michigan has two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft and the guy we’re about to talk about next seems to have next to no hype going in. Let’s talk about everything you need to know about the other Wolverines RB Kalel Mullings.

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 4Week 14

Mullings, 22, essentially played the Blake Corum role this past year. Donovan Edwards does what he does and in comes Mullings to be the grind it out between the tackles back. Because Corum stayed in school for so long, Mullings was kinda under the radar until this year. Of course, it feels unfair to evaluate him on the same scale considering Michigan wasn’t the same program without Jim Harbaugh.

The Boston native actually made the switch to running back late in his career. During the 2020 recruiting cycle, Mullings was actually a four star outside linebacker. By the way, Mullings was still playing defense three years into his Michigan tenure. 2022 he finally started getting *some* reps at RB. 2023 he saw 36 total carries and obviously was just down on the depth chart. played a ton of special teams until 2024 and that’s when things got interesting.

If you’re looking for reasons to buy into Mullings, just click the Week 4 Stock notes at the top. The guy CARRIED the team on his back against USC. Let’s keep in mind with all of this that Michigan had zero quarterback this year. Teams were stacking the box because let’s face it, this was a one-dimensional offense this past year.

It’s hard to complain about what you saw from Mullings this year. He posted 185 carries for 948 yards (5.1 YPC) and 12 touchdowns. Let’s not even BS around this. You can very easily make the argument he was Michigan’s best back this year. Donovan Edwards never broke out and Mullings had a huge impact on the field. You can argue they probably lose two additional games if not more without him.

It sucks we didn’t get to see Mullings in any of the predraft events. That may have had a big impact on how I felt going in because the pure resume as I mentioned before isn’t super lengthy. Checked in at 6-foot-1, 226 at the Combine but didn’t workout at all. Virtually all of the Michigan guys skipped out for whatever reason. Not a speed demon but certainly showed he can run with power.

Mullings holds up well as a pass protector. Edwards was the receiving back so I’m not sure if he can or can’t do it but I can’t imagine he’s going to be an ace catching the ball. Not a burner and lacks creativity at times but has enough giddy up to get the job done. Guy was just a steady force the entire season. Ball security is good too considering his lack of experience at the position.

Mullings really feels like a big time wildcard in this RB class for all the reasons I mentioned. It’s hard to know totally what we’re getting here. No question that we know he’s a power back going forward but the range of outcomes here in terms of how good the player is feels like an unknown. Just don’t have a big enough sample size and the non-existent showing during the predraft events make it hard to grade the pure movement skills in the open field. I don’t mind taking a shot on Mullings but if you do, it’s certainly not with a high pick. If he goes undrafted, I’d want an extra look during the preseason.
