Will Wade Agrees to be the next head coach of NC State

People should hold off on those McNeese upset picks over Clemson in the 2025 March Madness Tournament. Will Wade is the head coach of the McNeese Cowboys. In his second year with the program he has them at a 27-6 record as a 12-seed in the NCAA tournament. The Cowboys are a popular upset pick as a lot of people look for the right Cinderella pick. However, it was just announced that Will Wade has agreed to become the next head coach of the NC State Wolfpack.

Wade has been successful everywhere he has gone thus far as a head coach. He started at Chattanooga where he would finish 40-25 in two seasons. He then excelled at VCU where he finished 51-20 in two seasons including one trip to the round of 32 in March Madness. Wade got a huge step up in 2017 when he was offered the head coaching job at LSU. He was once again successful in his new home having a 105-51 record in five seasons with the Tigers. He went to the NCAA Tournament three times including one trip to the Sweet Sixteen. However, he was fired in 2022 due to multiple recruiting violations.

Will Wade, who at 42 is younger in the landscape of college coaches, has had his fair share of violations and suspensions. However, after putting in his work at McNeese he will get his chance to coach in a major conference again with NC State. The news might mix up the vibes in the McNeese locker room but nevertheless, Wade will be headed to the ACC next season.

NC State Wolfpack

NC State struggled this season with a 12-19 record and an abysmal 5-15 conference record. Former head coach Kevin Keatts was at the helm for 8 seasons. Also, he led NC State to their magical Final Four run last year as an 11-Seed. However, aside from that one NCAA Tournament run the Wolfpack were never dominant.

Now, Wade will have a chance to turn the NC State program around and make them perennial March contenders. It will be interesting to see if he starts fresh or if he brings some of his McNeese Cowboys with him. NC State and Will Wade both have a chance to return to glory next season with the start of the Wade era.
