Big goalie news dropped this morning when Adin Hill signed a six-year extension to remain in Vegas. I also have a lengthy follow-up on the story if you want to read that here or can be checked out in the embed when you’re done reading this.
Anywho… when Hill met with reporters today at practice, he called the new contract a ‘dream come true’.
“To sign a six-year contract here in Vegas is a dream come true,” Hill said. “I want to say thanks to (general manager) Kelly (McCrimmon) and (president) George (McPhee) and my agent and everything to make it all happen. I’m very excited to be here.
“With the team, the organization, they’re always pushing to win. I’ve played in teams that haven’t made the playoffs and that and I think it’s a blessing to be on a competitive team every year and have a chance to win. And also, I mean, I love my teammates here, love the organization, love all the staff, and living in Vegas is just an added bonus.”
Hill, 28, is currently in the last year of his deal that pays him a $4.9 million AAV. It was pretty clear the last time Hill’s deal came up, he made it a real priority to stay in Vegas. One thing about Hill is that it seems like he’s always had a humble good head on his shoulders and somehow has that Eli Manning quality about him. Really aloof but the pressure doesn’t ever seem to get to him in big moments. All things considered, the deal appears to be a good one for both sides.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy also seemed pretty happy about the deal and had this to say on his starting goalie.
“I’m happy for Adin. He’s earned it. I mean, you think about the story that he comes in here two years ago from San Jose and what he’s been able to do for us and himself,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “So big credit to the organization, and specifically Sean Burke, for the work he’s put in and for identifying that level of talent, what he thought he could be. So, we’re all happy.”
