Evan Engram Signs Free Agent Deal With Broncos

Is this the best tight end Sean Payton has had since Jimmy Graham? It sure feels like that. No disrespect to Adam Trautman… but it sure feels like Payton deserves better and he probably got better. Evan Engram is heading to Denver after signing a two year contract in free agency.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network was the first to report the news on the veteran tight end.

The deal with the Broncos is a two year deal worth a total of $23 million. Most of it ($16.5) is guaranteed. Not bad for a guy who got cut earlier this offseason.

Engram, 30, missed eight games last year and has had his fair share of health battles during his NFL career. Still, he was fairly productive all things considered despite dealing with a hamstring notching 47 catches for 365 yards and a touchdown in nine games last season. Those numbers are still a far cry from his career highs back in 2022 when he reeled in 73 receptions and 766 receiving yards.

It will be interesting to see if Engram can form chemistry with Bo Nix. He’s certainly not there to block and has never been a factor in that aspect of the game. Engram joins Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, and Troy Franklin as the primary pass catchers. Not a terrible group for Nix and the Broncos to build around. The former 23rd overall pick by the Giants back in 2017 will get a chance to revitalize his career.
