Breaking: Javon Kinlaw signs with the Washington Commanders

Breaking: Javon Kinlaw signs with the Washington Commanders

Former 49ers Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw has agreed to a three-year contract with the Washington Commanders. The deal is worth $45 million, 30 of which is guaranteed. Ian Rappaport first reported the news on X.

The Commanders are wasting no time following the release of Jonathan Allen yesterday. While Kinlaw doesn’t give you quite the same production a guy like Allen does. He is a bit younger and much much cheaer over the next few years.

Allowing the Commanders to hopefully go out and spend more money on other positions of need in the secondary. Javon Kinlaw is no slouch though. He has been plagued with injuries throughout his career. But when he’s on the field, it’s clear he can be a different maker.

His 2024 season with the New York Jets saw him play a career high 17 games to a tune of a carrier high 4.5 sacks. He also tallied a career high in tackles for loss at five.

By all measures, it was Javon Kinlaw’s best season in the NFL. Or, at the very least, one in which he was able to stay healthy. Leading the Commanders to think some big things could be on the table for Javon Kinlaw going into next season.

Not crazy to see it happening. Since being drafted, Kinlaw has had many of the tools you want from an interior pass rusher. It was just such a struggle for him to stay on the field his entire time in San Francisco.

Now, in Washington he should have all the opportunity he wants to establish himself as a premier pass defensive lineman.

For the Commanders it’s been a busy offseason and I expect that to continue as we go into Free Agency. They took the NFL world by storm this last season with rookie phenom Jayden Daniels and are looking to cash in.

The only problem is that the NFC currently has a lot of talent, and its rivals in the NFC East, the Eagles, who just won the Super Bowl, also show no signs of slowing down. There is still a very tough road ahead, but I still love what the Commanders are doing this offseason.

They have been super aggressive early on and still have some money to play with. This new ownership has already shown a commitment to surround Jayden Daniels with quality talent, so expect this offseason to be no different.

For the first time in what seems like forever, the Washington Commanders are committed to winning. Crazy how quickly you can find success when you get rid of a guy like Dan Snyder huh? Even funnier is the fact that he thinks he deserves credit for how good the team was this past season. Insane.

Overall, I think this is a great deal for both sides. Washington strengthens its defensive line further, and Javon Kinlaw gets the chance to produce for a team that wants to win now. Let’s just hope he can stay healthy.
