Josh Allen signs monster six-year extension with Bills

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has signed a monster six-year, $330 million extension with $250 million guaranteed, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter first reported Sunday.

A new NFL mark: the Bills and Josh Allen reached agreement on a new record-setting six-year, $330 million contract that includes $250 million guaranteed, the largest guarantee ever given to an NFL player, sources tell ESPN.

The team confirmed the news shortly thereafter.

Allen’s $250 million guarantee is the largest that any player has received in NFL history, topping Deshaun Watson’s $230 million guarantee and Dak Prescott’s $231 million guarantee.

Regardless of how you want to sort the top of the food chain, Allen has been a top-3 quarterback in the NFL since the start of 2020. Winner of the 2024 NFL MVP, Allen threw for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions–adding 12 more scores and 531 more yards on the ground.

He’s ranked in the top-10 in total offense each of the last five seasons and posted the league’s best QBR and passer rating. There aren’t very many players who have single-handedly willed their teams to wins–both in the regular season and postseason–and Allen has, despite having not led Buffalo to the Super Bowl yet.

Allen, 28, signed a $258 million extension ahead of the 2021 season. He was entering the 2025 season with four more years left on the deal, but his new six-year extension will attach two extra years (2029-30) through his age-34 season. The official terms of how the money will be dispersed has not been disclosed at the time of publishing.

This is a well-deserved contract for one of the best players in the NFL. I will be interested to see how they continue to build the rest of the ship, but they did a good job making their leader happy and locking him up for two extra seasons.
