The Seattle Seahawks plan to release longtime wide receiver Tyler Lockett, the team announced Wednesday.
Lockett confirmed the news on Twitter around the time of the announcement.
“I really enjoyed being in Seattle! I met so many great people and captured so many great memories,” Lockett wrote. “The 12’s really make this place meaningful! Although, my time on the Seahawks may have run its course I’m thankful for everything!!God gets all the glory forever!!!!”
Lockett, a third-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, has spent all 10 seasons with the Seahawks. He hauled in 661 career passes for 8,594 yards and 61 touchdowns, making one Pro Bowl and one All Pro–both as a rookie in 2015.
The longtime Seahawks wideout is second in franchise history–to Hall of Famer Steve Largent–in each of those aforementioned statistics. Lockett was uniquely known to be excellent at keeping himself durable and avoiding big hits from aggressive defensive backs.
In 2024, the 32-year-old had 49 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns–each being the lowest since 2017, his third year in the league. The Kansas State alum carried a $30.9 million cap hit with a $10 million base salary in 2025, according to Spotrac. As a result of releasing Lockett, Seattle will save $17 million.
Then-second-year target Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged as the team’s No. 1 option last year with D.K. Metcalf as the No. 2, so it makes sense to part ways with Lockett when they did.
Lockett is the latest aging receiver to be released after Davante Adams was released Tuesday. Where do you think his next–and perhaps final–stop will be? Let us know in the comments!
