Red Zone Shouldn’t Overpay To Keep Scott Hanson

Red Zone Shouldn’t Overpay To Keep Scott Hanson

NFL Network Red Zone host Scott Hanson is a free agent and it’s far from a lock he returns to his old role. Bread crumbs are being dropped that Hanson seems likely to land with NBC Sports.

VIA Front Office Sports:

NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson is in talks with NBC Sports about a wide-ranging job that could include Olympics and NFL coverage.”

“Hanson’s contract with NFL Media expired after the NFL season, sources tell Front Office Sports. The 53-year-old free agent was one of the breakout stars of NBCUniversal and Peacock’s Paris Olympics coverage this summer, serving as lead host of the Gold Zone whiparound highlights show.”

“NBC is eying Hanson to return as Gold Zone’s primary primetime host for the 2026 Winter Olympics and possibly the 2028 Summer Olympics, say my sources.”

Now that we got that out of the way… can we just have an honest conversation about this?

Does anybody like Scott Hanson? I can’t believe people are actually bidding on him?

Not saying the guy is a total disaster but he’s damn close to one. Last year in Week 16, he said this below.

“Another quick d*ck, dip, look at the Atlanta offense,” Hanson said.

It’s a pretty good summary on how he sounds during most broadcasts. It’s constant word vomit where he tries to say a thousand things in five seconds and fumbles it about every other time he speaks. If you really watch Red Zone, you know he botches at least ten names every broadcast. He’ll talk about how some player made a big catch and totally got the name of the player wrong. It happens at least ten times a broadcast without fail. Not to mention the fact that he’s mispronouncing names left and right.

I’m not saying his job is easy. It’s basically seven hours straight with no bathroom breaks. I just think it’s insane if you’re having a bidding war over a guy who really isn’t talented.

Feel free to comment here but I’ll close with a short list of my complaints about Hanson.

A: Gets the name of the player who made the play wrong constantly.

B: Talks way too much. Needs to understand less is more. Is there anything more infuriating when he’s talking over the main broadcast fumbling his words to accomplish nothing?

C: Is he actually funny? Can’t recall a single red zone broadcast saying “wow, good zinger, Scott”.
