Lucas Torreira linked with move back to Serie A – Fiorentina interested

Lucas Torreira is on his way back to Serie A with Fiorentina, the likely destination. Despite a hot start with Arsenal, Torreira has become expendable under Mikel Arteta and looks likely to leave should Arsenal complete a loan move for Dani Ceballos. Torreira joined Arsenal in 2018 from Sampdoria for a fee of £26 million, and the move to Fiorentina is rumored to be in the same region.

Despite an impressive start at Arsenal, Torreira lost his way under Unai Emery and has failed to impress Mikel Arteta. Last season Arsenal’s record with Torreira starting was: played 17, won three, drew nine, and lost five for a win rate of only 17.6%. Meanwhile, their record when he didn’t start was played 21, won 11, drew five, and lost five with a win rate of 52.4%.

“Last Season I played continuously, this one less so. This year has been more complicated: I have lost continuity and confidence. I do not like this. At this age, I need to play to be called up for the National team. I have a contract with Arsenal, but if I have to change in the future it will be a decision I make for my own good.”

The move, according to Italian outlet Labaro Viola, is initially a loan with an obligation from Fiorentina to buy at the end of the season. He will join Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined AS Roma earlier this week, out the exit door at the Emirates. The Armenian midfielder had his contract terminated by mutual consent with the Gunners allowing him to sign with the Serie A club on a free transfer. Arsenal will unlikely do the same with Torreira, though, as Arteta looks to raise enough funds to keep his rebuild going.

Lucas Torreira joins the likes of Mesut Ozil, Rob Holding, Sokratis, and Hector Bellerin, who have all been linked with moves away from the Emirates.
