Baker Mayfield Believes Liam Coen Will Help Trevor Lawrence

Liam Coen is the new head coach in Jacksonville. Time will tell if this proves to be a wise hire by the Jaguars. However, Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield is confident his former offensive coordinator will really help Trevor Lawrence get back on track.

Despite the weird way this head caoching hire went down (which basically only happened because general manager Trent Baalke got fired) Mayfield is happy for Coen and believes he deserves this opportunity. More importantly, he believes that Coen is the right guy to help get Trevor Lawrence back on track.

“People have their thoughts about how it went down and I understand the emotional aspect of it, but I’m happy for Liam. He deserves an opportunity,” Mayfield said.

“For Trevor, Liam taught the game of football to all of our offensive guys,” Mayfield said. “Trevor’s going to have a guy that’s going to grow into him, lean into that and help him out, not just on the field but off the field.”

Why Everyone Should Still Believe In Trevor Lawrence

Coen, 39, has a pretty impressive resume despite the goofy press conference. He was the offensive coordinator for the Rams in 2022 when they won the Super Bowl. He also helped Will Levis got picked about 100 picks higher than he should have after being the OC at Kentucky. Mayfield also is coming off a career best season with Coen calling the plays. If you’re a Jaguars fan, that’s your reason to be optimistic here.
