Charlotte Hornets forward Brandon Miller will be out indefinitely with a torn ligament in his right wrist, the team announced Friday evening.
According to the press release, the official prognosis is a “torn scapholunate ligament” in his shooting wrist that he suffered earlier this week against the Utah Jazz.
“It’s one of those bittersweet things where you’re happy for the victory, but unfortunate news on Brandon,” head coach Charles Lee said. “I think we’ll continue to evaluate where he is and do as much testing as we can.
“We’ll just kind of have to band together and help him through his rehab.”
Miller has been limited to 27 games this season after previously missing time in December with an ankle injury. When he’s been on the court, he’s been one of the Hornets’ most effective scorers, averaging 21.0 points on 40.3 percent shooting and 35.5 percent from 3-point range on 10.9 3-point attempts per game.
He’s also averaging 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.1 steals. The efficiency hasn’t quite been there for the 22-year-old wing, but he’s still conjured together four 30-point performances, including a 38-point outing with eight triples on Nov. 21 against the Detroit Pistons. Miller’s also had nine games this season with at least five made 3s, six with at least six and four with at least seven.
The Hornets previously lost forward Grant Williams for the season with a torn ACL. In Miller’s absence, outside of LaMelo Ball, they must rely on Miles Bridges, Coyd Martin, Josh Green and rookie wing Tidjane Salaun. Plus, with Nick Richards now in Phoenix, expect third-year center Mark Williams to break out as well.
