Could Jerod Mayo Reunite With Bill Belichick At UNC?

Jerod Mayo has been fired from the New England Patriots after only one season as head coach. One and dones in the NFL can be rare, however, with the circumstances that Mike Vrabel is interested in coaching the Patriots, along with the Jets interviewing Mike Vrabel to pressure the Patriots, Jerod Mayo had no shot. However, if you remember, Jerod Mayo was handpicked by Bill Belichick as the next head coach for the Patriots. Bill Belichick doesn’t do things just for giggles. There is obviously some trust there between Belichick and Mayo.

One has to wonder if there could be a reunion between the two. Bill Belichick has obviously taken the UNC head coaching job and will be looking to fill out his staff. Jerod Mayo can fit right in there as a DC for UNC. While on paper it could be considered as a downgrade going from NFL head coach to College Football DC, Bill Belichick is going to try to dominate the CFB world as a head coach and run his college team as almost an NFL team. So while Mayo would technically be taking a step down, he will still have a big role for a team that excellence will be the standard.

Bill Belichick Can’t Believe NFL Teams Suck At Clock Management

It’s entirely possible that Jerod Mayo stays in the NFL with another head coaching opportunity or maybe getting a coordinator job. However, I am just spitballing here. Knowing that I have Bill Belichick’s confidence in me would lead me to believe that that is an opportunity for me. While it sucks for Jerod Mayo, he will have a spot for him somewhere somehow, he will just have to be patient.
