Tulane QB Darian Mensah Transfers To Duke

Tulane had a phenomenal season in 2024, finishing with a 9-4 record surpassing many expectations that were placed on the program. This was in large part due to the solid play of Sophomore QB Darian Mensah. Mensah finished the year with 2,723 yards, 22/6 TD/INT ratio on 65.9% completion percentage. His QBR of 76.5 was good enough for 20th in the country. It was announced today that Mensah would be replacing Maalik Murphy at Duke, per 247Sports.com.

What stands out to me about Darian Mensah’s game is his ability to get the ball accurately over the middle third of the field. Mensah placed third in the entire country with an average throw of 9.5 yards, behind Kurtis Rourke of Indiana at 9.8 yards per attempt, and Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss at a staggering 10.6 yards per attempt. He has a very natural feel to him in the pocket, never appearing overly stressed but also knows when to pull it down and take off. Eyes are always downfield. Really like where his anticipation is at but certainly has room to grow in that department. He has a *nice* arm but no real rocket launcher. Deep balls are not his strong suit.

Darian Mensah was one of the hotter names on the transfer portal this year, and I can honestly say I am a bit surprised the landing spot was Duke. I know teams like Auburn, Mississippi State, and Houston had their eyes on other guys, but I believed Mensah would be a very good fit for any of those three spots. Not to discredit Duke in any way, as he has large shoes to fill, and they have the capabilities to capitalize on Mensah’s strengths. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on this Duke team in 2025.
