Rangers Trade Jacob Trouba To The Ducks

The Jacob Trouba / Rangers saga is finally over. After New York essentially exiled him out of town, the club eventually found a trade partner. More importantly, a trade partner that wasn’t on Trouba’s 15-team no-trade list.

Trouba has been sent packing and will be shipped off to Anaheim. The Ducks are taking on the full $8 million AAV for the next two years. In return, the Rangers will receive a 4th round pick in 2025 and Urho Vaakanainen.

The Daily Faceoff team was the first to report the news. Frank Seravalli broke the story of the trade. Johnny Lazarus had the return.

It’s been since reported by Seravalli that Trouba waived his no-trade to facilitate the move to Anaheim. Likely because the Rangers had a deal lined up for a team that wasn’t on the list and preferred to play in sunny California instead.

For the Ducks, they add D help and were already miles below the salary cap. They can add this $8 million cap hold and are still way under. Plus, having Trouba and Radko Gudas run around out there sure seems fun on paper. The Ducks are a lot scary to play from an intimidation factor. No question about that.

For the Rangers, it’s really about what happens next. Vaakanainen makes roughly $1 million. That means that have about $7 million to play with on the trade market. We can’t fully judge this trade until we see what happens with the money left behind. Although, getting off the huge cap hit does feel like a win.
