Cleveland Cavaliers forward Isaac Okoro debuted a new set of custom shoes Wednesday evening against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Okoro honored former legendary insider Adrian Wojnarowski, who retired from the gig in mid-September to become general manager for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball team, his alma mater. When Wojnarowski broke any type of news, they were famously labeled “Woj bombs,” and Okoro re-signing with the Cavaliers was the insider’s final Woj Bomb.
Here were the kicks that Okoro debuted, called “HOLO PEs,” inspired by being the final Woj Bomb, footwear, industry writer Nick DePaula reported Wednesday.
Even though it’s unique, this is such a cool honor–especially given how highly regarded Wojnarowski is in the news-breaking industry. He poured his blood, sweat and tears into it, changing sports media forever.
Of course, nobody knew that Okoro’s re-signing would cap off Wojnarowski’s phenomenal tenure in the industry. But there is something unique about being the last “Woj Bomb.” Given there were so many big ones throughout his career, at least the 23-year-old wing gets to say he was the “last one,” even though it wasn’t earth-shattering news.
Okoro scored nine points with two rebounds and two assists on 3-of-6 shooting from 3-point range across 20 minutes to keep Cleveland’s unbeaten 13-0 record alive. For the season, he’s averaging 6.0 points and 2.3 rebounds on 47.4 percent shooting and 48.5 percent from 3-point range, which would be a career-high.
There’s no telling whether or not Okoro will flash these kicks again on the hardwood, even though they do look cool, in my opinion. I’m not one for fashion, admittedly, so I guess take that viewpoint with a grain of salt. What do you think about Okoro’s custom shoe?
