This commitment has been in the works for over four years now, but Elijah Griffin has announced today he will be attending the University of Georgia. Griffin, out of Savannah Christian Prep in Savannah, GA, has been on the Bulldogs’ radar since he was in eighth grade, and now they get their guy. Griffin was choosing between three finalists: Georgia, Miami, and USC.
Griffin, the number four overall prospect in the 2025 class, becomes Kirby Smart’s highest-ranked recruit in the class of 23 he has so far for next season, which includes three other in-state five-star’s in Isaiah Gibson, Zayden Walker, and Elyiss Williams. He had this to say in regards to what led to his decision to commit to Georgia, per 247Sports.com:
“Honestly just seeing the whole D-line in action and how I felt I could relate to everybody in that D-line room and how I felt like I’m capable of fitting in that system and what the standard in that building is. It’s something set at a high level, and that’s something I want to be a part of, a winning program,” Griffin told Dawgs247. “I’m just testing my courage by going to the University of Georgia because it’s not going to be easy. It’s definitely not going to be easy, and I know that. At the end of the day, this game is a business, and I want to take advantage of whatever I can. Also, development is the key, and this is the best decision for me personally.”
“I talk to [defensive line] Coach [Tray] Scott almost every day. It’s never a dull moment ever,” Griffin said. “He just keeps it real with me regardless of anything. He’s got a great relationship with my family. I love the way he treats my family and the way he is as a person. He’s a great husband, father figure. He’s looked out for me, so I just appreciate everything he’s done. I want to continue that and take advantage of everything I’ll get at Georgia.”
The commitment from Elijah Griffin now gives Georgia the number three ranked recruiting class for 2025, just behind Alabama at two and Ohio State at one. Kirby Smart is loading up on the defensive side of the ball in this recruiting class, but it will be interesting to see if there’s a balance between offense and defense as we go further into this recruiting cycle.
