Colorado State star wide receiver Tory Horton will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after suffering an apparent knee injury in the Rams’ game against San Jose State. Coach Jay Norvell did not specify what the injury is, but it is significant enough to require surgery which will end his career in college.
Horton, a two-time first-team All-Mountain West selection, was the focal point of this Rams offense. Horton was just 35 yards short of breaking Colorado State’s all-time receiving record of 3,649 yards held by Rashard Higgins. Before his time in Fort Collins, he spent two seasons with Nevada, coincidentally enough where Norvell also coached before transferring.
Tory Horton had a spectacular season in 2023, leading the team with 96 receptions for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns. His presence on the field will be missed, per Jay Norvell.
Full quote via ESPN.com:
“His injury is season-ending, but he will fully recover and have his chance at the next level with the National Football League,” Norvell said in a statement. “I am appreciative of Tory’s loyalty to the staff and for his sacrifice and leadership to CSU.”
Tory Horton still projects as an intriguing prospect for the NFL. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver out of Fresno, California is a stellar route runner with excellent hands and can really move in the open field. I don’t believe NFL teams should be scared away by this injury, as Horton is more than capable of being a reliable, solid player at the next level. If he can be back healthy in time for the pre-draft process, I will be very curious to see how he looks.
