Aaron Rodgers Says Reports He Wanted Saleh Fired Are, “Patently False.”

It has been a crazy week in the NFL, most notably for the firing of New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh yesterday. Many suggested that Jets QB Aaron Rodgers was the one who wanted Saleh gone. On Tuesday, during his appearance on the Pat McAfee show, Rodgers addressed these speculations.

Per the Pat McAfee show, Rodgers said, “As far as any of the ridiculous allegations that are out there…I’m not gonna spend more than one sentence in response to it…I resent any of those accusations because they are patently false. It’s interesting the amount of power people think I have, which I don’t.”

Aaron Wanted Saleh Gone?

There was lots of speculation as to why the firing of Saleh happened because it seemed so sudden. Especially because the Jet’s struggles have mainly been on the offensive side of the ball, something Saleh has nothing to do with. If anyone should have been fired, it should have likely been Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett. Per CBS Sports, Saleh had considered firing Hackett before Jets owner Woody Johnson fired him.

Aaron Rodgers wasn’t going to let that happen. This is because he and Hackett are good friends and had lots of success when they were together in Green Bay. Nathaniel was the offensive coordinator for the Packers from 2019 through 2021. Green Bay won 13 games in each of the three seasons he was there. He then left and become the head coach of the Denver Broncos, but they fired him before his first season was even over. He and Rodgers have been trying to find that same mojo they had back in the day, to no avail yet.

Per NFL.com, Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the team’s interim head coach. It will be interesting to see if firing Saleh solves any of the Jet’s problems or ends up being a colossal mistake.
