Although the Baltimore Ravens have been adamant about not signing Antonio Brown, they are still in the market to a veteran wide receiver. Reportedly the former Dallas Cowboys Dez Bryant is headed to Baltimore to workout with the Ravens this week.
Dez Bryant is the Cowboys all-time leader in receiving touchdowns, despite only being 31 years old. But he has not played since 2017. The veteran last played for the New Orleans Saints in for the 2018 season. However, Dez Bryant did not play a single snap during this time there. In the preseason of 2018, Bryant tore his Achilles tendon. Due to his injuries, he was out for all of the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
However, the Baltimore Ravens could use some help at the receiver position. They have former 2019 first-round pick, Marquise Brown. They also retained one of the best tight ends in the NFL, Mark Andrews. These two were MVP Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets in 2019. However, other than Andrews and Brown, the Ravens do not have very dependable receiving threats. Especially on the outside of the field.
The problem with Dez Bryant however, is that no one knows what he has left in him. He was out the last 2 years, cannot know what he would have done in New Orleans, but we can look at his last year with the Cowboys.
In 2017, despite playing in all 16 games Bryant only recorded 838 yards. This was over 600 yards less than his last full season in 2014. He also struggled in getting separation on the deep ball, and his contested catch percentage was also down.
However, with nearly three years of rest and training, it is possible that Dez Bryant is back in peak shape and can make a large impact on the football field again. If he can get his health back he can very much dominate as he did with the Cowboys. Especially with an MVP quarterback throwing him the ball.
