Ivica Zubac, Clippers agree to three-year extension

Los Angeles Clippers center Ivica Zubac has agreed to a three-year, $58.6 million extension with the organization, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report last week.

Zubac, 27, was entering the final year of his three-year, $32.8 million contract. His cap hit for the 2023-24 season was $11.7 million, roughly 6.9 percent of the cap, according to Spotrac. He is now the 14th veteran to sign an extension since the end of the 2023-24 season, according to ESPN cap insider Bobby Marks. Others who have signed an extension include Stephen Curry, Jarrett Allen, T.J. McConnell, Andrew Nembhard, Derrick White, Bam Adebayo, Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell, among others.

According to Spotrac, his new contract is the 17th-highest amongst centers in the NBA, sandwiched between Isaiah Nikola Vucevic ($60 million) and Victor Wembanyama ($55M, rookie contract).

He averaged 11.7 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game last season, shooting 64.9 percent from the floor with a 67.1 true-shooting percentage. All nine of his NBA seasons have come in Los Angeles–three with the Lakers and six with the Clippers. In those nine seasons, he’s posted 9.2 points, 7.4 boards and one block on 64.6 percent true-shooting.

He’s not the most polished defender, though he’s still one of the league’s better rim protectors. He’s finished in the top-20 in block percentage each of the last five seasons, including cracking the top-15 last year. He’s also a solid rebounder, especially on the offensive glass, where he’s finished top-10 in rebounding percentage over the last five seasons, including leading the NBA in ORB% in 2019-20 (15.9 percent).
