Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Fight Delayed

The Mike Tyson versus Roy Jones Jr. fight, originally scheduled for September 12 has been postponed. The event was moved to Thanksgiving weekend, November 28th. This change, however, is in the best interests of the event.

In addition to the change of date, new undercard fights were added. Originally the only undercard fight consisted of Youtuber Jake Paul and former NBA player Nate Robinson. Due to their experience, this fight would have been underwhelming, to say the least. However, 2 additional fights have been added. Badou Jack vs. Blake McKernan and Vidal Riley vs. Rashad Coulter.

These four will now be joining the slate leading up to the main event. Because all four have had professional boxing experience and have performed well in their individual fields the fights should be good. Although the undercard seemed boring before, it just became as interesting as the main event.

Mike Tyson was stated that the “Changing [of] the date to November 28th will give more people the opportunity to see the biggest comeback in boxing history”. Tyson continued saying that, “This temporary inconvenience will last longer than Roy Jones Jr. He better be ready, I’m coming full force.”. Tyson’s team also stated that they felt that postponing the match could help increase revenue for the event. However, other sources claim otherwise. They state that the issue was that more time was needed to secure international TV deals.

The 54-year-old Tyson had been teasing a return to the ring for quite some time. After a few months, a fight with the 51-year-old Jones was announced. This fight was rumored to happen when Jones defeated John Ruiz to win the WBA heavyweight championship in 2003 but it never happened.

Mike Tyson retired in 2005 after a fight against Kevin McBride. Roy Jones retired in 2018 after a stretch of embarrassing fights against mediocre competition.
