OG Anunoby intends to sign five-year, $213 million deal to return to Knicks

Woah! Less than 24 hours after the New York Knicks traded for Mikal Bridges, the organization intends to bring back OG Anunoby on a five-year, $213 million mega-deal, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski was first to report Wednesday.

Anunoby, who will turn 27-years-old on July 17, was going to be an unrestricted free agent if no extension was signed before this weekend. He is now the highest-paid player on the Knicks’ cap sheet for the 2024-25 season at $36.6 million, according to Spotrac.

This comes monthly a rough after it was reported that Anunoby would entertain rival offers … even though he was not legally allowed to until June 30, when free agency opens. The 76ers, who have loads of cap space, would have been the likely frontrunner if Anunoby did entertain unrestricted free agency.

Nevertheless, that’s not going to matter now. Anunoby’s biggest issue is staying on the court, even though he’s one of the more impactful two-way wings the league has to offer when he is. He averaged 14.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 23 games with New York last year, shooting 48.8 percent from the floor and 39.4 percent from 3-point range. Before injuring his hamstring in the East semis against Indiana, he averaged 15.1 points and 6.0 boards on 50.5 percent shooting and 58.3 percent true shooting.

The Knicks will be committing nearly $132 million to Anunoby, Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart alone next season … not including Mitchell Robinson‘s $14.3 million, Donte DiVincenzo‘s $11.4 million, Miles McBride‘s $4.7 million or their two combined first-round picks ($5.5M).
