Jrue Holiday Agrees With Jason Kidd About Jaylen Brown

Following the Boston Celtics’ 18-point Game 1 win over the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals, Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd told the media he thinks Jaylen Brown is the team’s best player.

To most, this was an obvious move by Kidd to create some tension between Brown and the de facto star of the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum. Fortunately for Dallas, and perhaps unfortunately for Boston, Jrue Holiday took the bait.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Jrue Holiday responded to Kidd’s claim by saying “I don’t think he’s lying.” He didn’t put anyone down, but instead lifted Brown up.

According to Holiday, Brown has been playing at a different level this postseason.

“I think JB has been aggressive in every single way,” he said. “He’s been getting to the paint, getting to the free-throw line, and then also making plays for other people.”

He further commended Brown’s performance guarding Luka Dončić, something Holiday calls “hard to do.”

Thankfully for Boston, no one else on the team seemed to fall for Kidd’s trap. Jayson Tatum took the news in stride, saying he had “no reaction” to Kidd’s comments; Al Horford called them “sneaky.” Both players were also quick to praise Brown, acknowledging that his performance is key to their success.

It seems that the locker room in Boston is strong, and the vibes are good going into Game 2 Sunday night. Maybe we’ll get some more meddling from Kidd, depending on tonight’s outcome. We’ll see if Holiday falls for it a second time. Fool me once, right?
