Your NFL Fantasy Leagues Need To Add Points For Returners

Enough with the damn kickers and defenses. If you want some wildness in your fantasy leagues in a controlled manner, add points for kickoff returns and punt returns. That means even the most obscure NFL WRs might make a difference on your team. That way, your late-round fliers in your NFL Fantasy drafts may have some meaning to it instead of just throwing darts at players. Especially in Best Ball leagues, if your returner has a superb game, it could steal you a win. This is especially more true now that the new NFL Kickoff rules are in effect. I have a post here that might simplify it for you. But, basically, the the NFL is incentivizing kicking teams to not have a touchback every time. If the kicking team isn’t going for a touchback every time, this means that the returning teams actually have a reason to return.

I added return yards last year in my fantasy league. Being the commissioner, I asked the league and they okayed it. I am hip with the times. Now, return yards will be more relevant than ever. Liking rushing yards and receiving yards, we assign 0.1 points per yard in our fantasy leagues. It can make a difference, especially if there are TDs. Ever heard of Andrew Beck? Me neither, but that guy returned a kickoff for a TD and has 94 return yards, that’s 15 points. In a best ball league, sometimes that’s enough to win you a league. Marvin Mims Jr., Dameon Pierce, and Jalen Reagor also scored a TD off kickoffs, the yards and points for that week would be crazy.

It’s not only for kickoff returns either, do punt returns as well. Ever heard of Britain Covey? Me neither but that guy led the league in punt return yards last season with 417 yards. That would be an extra 41.7 points on your team. Rashid Shaheed had 339 yards and a punt return TD for what it is worth too. Or take a guy like Marvin Mims Jr. again, he returns kickoffs and punt returns. Simply by adding 0.1 points per yard. Marvin Mims Jr. would have an extra 709 yards on his resume and an extra 70.9 points. It makes a difference.

Enough with the kickers and defenses, please. We took those out of the fantasy leagues that I am in. Adding return yards is what your fantasy league needs. That means you actually have to pay attention to the kickoffs and the rules are now relevant to you. I don’t care if Ben Dover makes a field goal or if Mike Oxlong on defense does anything. I care if Marvin Mims Jr. gets fantasy points on his returns, that’s real fantasy football. If you haven’t done it or your Commish hasn’t, it should have been done yesterday.
