Cameron Wake was a possible candidate for comeback player of the year in 2016 after returning from an Achilles tear in 2015. Miami has rewarded his strong season by agreeing to a new contract extension through the 2018 season. The team first announced the news.
Wake’s new deal will essentially add one year to his contract as he was already signed for the 2017 season. This new deal will be worth $19 million spread out over two years with $11 million of it being guaranteed. After making a pair of roster cuts, Miami is currently scheduled to have $42 million in cap space. Miami still has to figure out who will be starting on the opposite side of Wake to rush the passer as Andre Branch is currently set to hit free agency.
Wake, 35, recorded 11.5 sacks in 2016 making his 5th pro bowl trip as well. Wake now has 4 seasons with at least 10 sacks or more.
