The Jets Are Moving On From Brenden Dillon?

Apparently, Nikolaj Ehlers isn’t the only player the Winnipeg Jets are planning to move on from. Veteran bottom-pair defenseman Brenden Dillon likely won’t be re-signing with the team once he hits free agency at the start of July.

The Winnipeg Sun’s Scott Billeck reported that the Jets plan to say goodbye to Dillon. With roughly $13.35 million in cap space to work with, Dillon has been made aware that he won’t be made a priority to re-sign. The player has also been frustrated with the offers by the team. It’s apparent by now that the two sides will part ways with Dillon expected to hit the open market.

Dillon, 33, is expected to land a two-year deal with a $2.975 AAV according to Evolving Hockey. That’s roughly a $1 million decrease on what he was playing on last season. Dillon previously inked a four-year, $15.6 million contract extension with the Capitals prior to the 2020-21 NHL season.

Dillon has played for Dallas, San Jose, Washington, and Winnipeg during his 13-year NHL career. He will likely have to add one more to that list this upcoming offseason. Teams should be interested in Dillon as a bottom pair option. Some would argue the guy is coming off his best season notching career-high totals in goals (8), plus/minus (+20), and hits (241) during the 2023-24 Season. He was also a +38 rating during his entire tenure playing for the Jets while being incredibly durable only missing eight games for the team.
