Amon-Ra St. Brown has agreed to a four-year, $120 million extension with the Detroit Lions. The deal includes $77 million worth of guaranteed money. Ian Rappoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news.
St. Brown’s extension makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL alongside Tyreek Hill. The pair both have an average annual value of $30 million.
Detroit managed to lock down St. Brown before he made his way to the open market. St. Brown had one year left on his rookie deal before signing this extension.
The wide receiver market will likely undergo a massive change relatively soon. Justin Jefferson and Ceedee Lamb are on the verge of a new contract. In all likelihood, those players will eclipse an annual average value of $30 million.
The Lions struck gold with St. Brown when they drafted the USC product in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. That selection played a massive part in the Lions winning the NFC North and masking the NFC Championship game.
In three seasons as a Lion, St. Brown caught 315 passes for 3,588 yards and 21 touchdowns. In 2023, he had a career season where he recorded 1515 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 119 receptions. This work resulted in being named a First-Team All-Pro.
St. Brown is the first domino in a presumed Lions spending spree. In the coming years, Detroit has to extend right tackle Penei Sewell and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. Furthermore, they will need to decide if they want to give quarterback Jared Goff an extension.
