MJ Devonshire 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Pittsburgh’s MJ Devonshire is next on the docket to get their 2024 NFL Drfat profile. I’m still not even sure where I land with Devonshire in terms of this Cornerback class, so we will figure it out as this goes on. I think there are a handful of tools to work with, but I’m worried the dude might just stink. Let’s talk about it.
Devonshire, a former three-star recruit out of Pennsylvania, originally committed to Kentucky and played there for two seasons before transferring to Pitt. His time at Pitt was fruitful, posting 81 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and 8 interceptions, with four of those coming last season. He also provides some value in punt return as well, as he handled those duties last season.
It needs to be talked about that the QB’s passer rating when he was targeted is absurdly high. 97.8. How can you in good faith draft a Cornerback who struggles to get his hands to the ball and be disruptive? The higher the number, the better the quality of the throw, the chance for the receiver, the coverage, etc. It doesn’t help that MJ Devonshire doesn’t play bigger than his frame (5’11, 185 lbs). Not overly fast, either. Does any of this sound like someone you want to draft?
Forget the positives, we’ve reached our verdict. Devonshire gets an undrafted grade from me, and I am not totally sure I would put in a phone call to bring him into camp. The interceptions are nice, sure, but the pure coverage skills are lacking. If I am drafting someone, I believe that they can eventually contribute something to my team. And in the case of Devonshire, I am not sure he can.
