Carson Wentz, Chiefs Agree To One-Year Deal

No this isn’t an April fools joke. Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has agreed to join the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year deal, according to Bleacher Report’s Andrew Schultz.

Wentz will serve as the backup for current Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. The salary of the deal has yet to be revealed.

Carson Wentz recently served as the backup quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams and Matthew Stafford. In his time in LA, Wentz played two games, throwing for 163 yards and two passing touchdowns touchdowns; also running for 56 yards and a rushing TD.

While Wentz will likely not get any playing time behind Mahomes, he serves as a good backup to have as the Chiefs will get a quarterback who finished in third place MVP in 2017-18 season.

The quarterback has been around the league recently, as this will be Wentz fourth team in four seasons. The last time Wentz played a full season was back in the 2021-22 season when he played with the Indianapolis Colts. In eight years in the league, Wentz has only played in three full seasons.

Carson Wentz was drafted by the Eagles in the 2016 NFL Draft as the second overall pick from North Dakota State. During his time in Philly, Wentz won Super Bowl 52 despite not playing a game in the team’s Super Bowl journey, as he a suffered a tore ACL and was replaced by Nick Foles.

The Chiefs continue to add to their offense, including the addition of former Arizona Cardinal receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown, who also agreed to a one-year deal with the recent Super Bowl winners.
