Javon Solomon 2024 NFL Draft Profile

The beauty of the NFL Draft is guys from the smaller schools can go to the all-star events and showcase their talents, then take that momentum and go to the NFL Combine and try to help their stock. This can be said about Troy’s Javon Solomon. With all the work he put in during the pre-draft process, what does his 2024 NFL Draft profile look like? Let’s talk about it.

Solomon was a PRODUCER in college, eclipsing double-digit sacks twice in his four years, including 16(!) sacks a season ago, good enough for a tie for first in all of College Football. He would finish his career with 33 sacks. During his final three years, where he was the starter, he played over 1,600 snaps, finishing with 27 QB hits and 65 hurries during the span.

There’s a ton to like from Javon Solomon and the best part is I think he is just scratching the surface in terms of his pass rush arsenal. What he has now is a set of speed rush moves set up by great hips and knowledge of getting his body low for leverage. His hips pop up on contact, driving his linemen back with strong hands. He played a bit in three-technique but I would be very interested to see him be a stand-up rusher. Solomon always seems to be involved in the play, thanks to the motor always running hot.

The wingspan isn’t ideal, I’ll admit. This leaves him prone to being locked up early by tackles with longer arms. I’d like to see him cleaner when disengaging a block, just feels like he hangs around a little too long at times. He is fine in run defense but quicker processing and play recognition could help him become a better run defender.

I think the tools are there. Some may knock him for competition playing at Troy but I think the foundation is set and you can build off that. I have a mid-third-round grade on Javon Solomon, and I would love to pair him with a veteran or someone who is a producer in the NFL. I think he has sponge potential and if tapped into, he could be a real nice pro.
