Washington Huskies hire Danny Sprinkle as next MBB head coach

The Washington Huskies have made a change at head coach following the 2023-2024 season. Danny Sprinkle the former Montana State and Utah State head coach will be the new leader for the Huskies. Sprinkle has Northwest roots and his father Bill Sprinkle played football at the University of Washington in the late 60s. Washington is hoping the new hire will thrust them back into college basketball relevancy.

Huskies men’s basketball finished the season with a 17-15 record. They were a middle-of-the-pack team in the PAC-12 Conference in both conference and overall record. This season was not the ideal last season in the PAC-12. However, with the new addition of Sprinkle the Huskies are hoping for brighter days as they join the Big Ten Conference in 2024. Washington will be joined by USC and UCLA in the new conference realignment. The Big Ten already hosts teams such as Purdue, Illinois, Michigan, and Michigan State so Sprinkle will have his work cut out for him.

It will be interesting to see if Danny Sprinkle can keep up his ongoing success as a college men’s basketball coach at Washington.

Danny Sprinkle’s College Basketball Résumé

Danny Sprinkle’s last two jobs were at Montana State and Utah State. Sprinkle had a marvelous four years at Montana State finishing with a record of 81-43. He led the Bobcats to two back-to-back NCAA tournaments in 2022 and 2023. Also, he won the Big Sky regular season and conference tournament in 2022 and the Big Sky Conference tournament in 2023.

In the 2023-2024 season, Sprinkle was named the head coach of the Utah State Aggies. He has an amazing year leading the Aggies to a 28-7 record. Utah State was the Mountain West Conference regular season champions and the Aggies were an 8-seed in the NCAA tournament. Sprinkle was named the Mountain West Coach of the Year in 2024 and he won a first-round matchup against TCU in March Madness. Danny Sprinkle has had a lot of success as a college coach and he will try to continue that trend next season with the Washington Huskies.
