The Bruins Totally Tried To Trade Linus Ullmark
The Bruins probably have the best one-two punch in net with Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. The problem is Boston probably can’t afford both long term and Swayman is in line for a serious raise. Don’t look now but the Bruins totally just tried to trade away Ullmark… and then lowkey lied about it.
Let’s connect the dots, shall we?
Kevin Weekes at ESPN was all over this. He first pointed out the possibility of a multi-team trade. Something we now know was in the works between the Kings and Bruins.
Frank Seravalli then confirmed that a trade was agreed upon that would have sent Ullmark to LA.
It didn’t cross the finish line because Ullmark has a 16-team no-trade list and the Kings are on it. Ullmark rejected a move to LA midseason. Word on the street is Pierre-Luc Dubois and Matt Roy were part of the package coming back to Boston.
The worst part is Don Sweeney acted like it never happened. Well, he denied it but also danced around it in a comedic rant that made zero sense.
First Sweeney said he “wasn’t that aggressive” shopping Ullmark (per the Boston Globe’s Matt Porter.). Then he claims he’s happy with the goalies he has and totally never tried to move one.
“I really like the tandem we have now,” he told reporters on Friday, including NBC Sports Boston. “I’m very happy that we’ve (stood) pat there. Rumors are rumors in terms of what happens in private conversations. You guys know me well enough. It’s not coming from here in terms of what we’re trying to explore, what other teams are asking about.
Just wow…
Sweeney is a dope and this further cements that. Can you imagine if they took on that Dubois contract? Good lord. Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make and Bruins fans should count their lucky stars this one didn’t happen. Big yikes.
