Kevin Byard has signed with the Chicago Bears for a 2-year deal, worth $15 million a year. Ian Rapoport first reported the news on Twitter:
Kevin Byard has signed with the Chicago Bears. This has to be the Bears addressing their safety position after Eddie Jackson decided he was going to test Free Agency. The Bears are top 5 in cap space entering the 2024 NFL off-season, so they have money to spend to make splashes like this to try to contend in a unpredictable NFC North division.
Kevin Byard, 30, still has some years left in his career to make an impact on this Bears team. After playing for the Tennessee Titans for 7 full years, he was traded last season to the Philadelphia Eagles. Byard is a 2-time All-Pro, being selected in 2017 and 2021. For his career, Byard has 28 interceptions, including 1 interception with the Eagles last season. Pair that along with his 66 pass deflections in his career, there’s no doubt that Chicago wants to have him on their team for what could be the last few good years of his career.
The Bears secondary now shapes up with the re-signing of Jaylon Johnson, Jaquan Brisker, Kyler Gordon, and now Kevin Byard in the mix. This is a solid secondary for the Bears who are looking at revamping their offense to make the playoffs next year.
