The Dodgers are playing on rookie video game mode this offseason. Los Angeles somehow landed Shohei Ohtani AND Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the same offseason. Recently, Yamamoto was introduced to the media in LA. The new Dodgers starter said some interesting things during the presser.
Yamamoto, 25, was asked which MLB hitter he is looking forward to facing the most. In a not-so-shocking way, his pick was a former teammate of his with the Orix Buffaloes.
“If anyone (I’m) looking forward to playing against, it’s Masataka Yoshida of the Red Sox,” Yamamoto said on MLB Network’s “MLB Tonight” on Wednesday. “He was an old teammate in Japan. To be able to face him in a real game over here would mean a lot.”
Yoshida, 30, had a solid rookie season in Boston slashing .289/.338/.445 with 15 home runs in 140 games for the Red Sox. They’re apparently good friends too. The two played together on team Japan in the WBC as well.
MLB teams play everybody now with the schedule changes. The Red Sox will open a series based in Los Angeles to open the second half of the 2024 MLB Season. The Sox will play the Dodgers in LA from July 19-21.
The Red Sox have not been to Dodger Stadium since they won the World Series in 2018. Boy, a lot of things have changed since then. Did the Red Sox really sell their soul for the greatest team of all time in 2018? It’s starting to feel like that.
