Remember When PFF Said Brandon Staley Was A Good Coach?

To the surprise of exactly no one, the Chargers finally fired Brandon Staley. Anyone who had a brain knew that Staley was a terrible head coach. Scott even said this was a disastrous hire before Staley even coached a single game. It was a stinky ship from Jump Street.

Can we just take a walk down memory lane? I just want to remind everyone what Pro Football Focus said about Staley just one year ago.

PFF called Staley the 12th-best coach in the NFL. One spot ahead of Mike Tomlin who has never had a losing season.

“The former defensive coordinator has done a strong job embracing analytical ideas and done a respectable job overseeing strong offensive outputs. However, for his success to continue, his defensive output will need to follow suit.”

Is that a joke? What did Staley do well? Name one thing he did well. So the guy is a good coach because he goes for it on fourth down? Is Staley a good head coach because he hired Kellen Moore to tank his offense? Explain to me what makes Staley a good coach.

Truly comical. I encourage you to click the link above because it’s the most ridiculous list ever. PFF thought Kliff Kingsbury was the 4th best coach in the entire league. Did you know that Frank Reich is a better coach than Sean McVay? This list was made one year ago. WTF are we talking about?
