Report: Wizards Could Use Jordan Poole As Future Trade Piece

As many of us remember, Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole was a part of the blockbuster trade last summer that sent him to D.C. and Chris Paul to the Golden State Warriors.

NBA insider Marc Stein believes that Poole could be on the move again. He believes that Washington views him as a trade piece and not a franchise player. This could be due to the fact the Wizards are currently 2-11 and Poole has had a rough start to the year.

When asked whether the Wizards are trying to rebuild Jordan Poole’s trade value to flip him, or keep him as a “cornerstone player,” this is what Marc Stein said:

“My sense, from speaking to various league observers,” Stein said (h/t Inside the Wizards). “is that more believe it is the former rather than the latter.”

Poole played an important role during his time in Golden State and was great during the 2022 championship run. Despite his good play, he was always in the shadows of the splash bros. Although he was a role player there, he gained a lot of valuable experience that can apply to his new role with the Wizards.

“Obviously, I wanted to be in a position to have my own team,” Poole said. “Luckily, I’m able to do that so young, after learning from some of the best.”

Although Poole is happy to have his own team now, it is unclear if the Wizards will allow him to continue playing such a big role. His shooting numbers are way down this year. He is shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 28.4 percent from 3-point range; these are below his career averages of 42 percent and 33.6% percent, respectively He is also shooting just 83.8 percent from the line, below his career average of 87.7 percent.

So far the experiment with him and Kyle Kuzma isn’t working out at all. The Wizards are clearly in a rebuild and they are trying to establish an identity. Jordan Poole’s trade value will likely still be decent and it wouldn’t be surprising if a contender tried to trade for him. He could go back to playing a role similar to the one in Golden State. It just doesn’t seem like he is quite ready to lead a team yet, which makes sense as he is only 24-years-old.
