Christian Hackenberg never threw a pass in the NFL after being drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Hackenberg was a huge recruit at Penn State but flamed out of the NFL early. The Jets, Raiders, Eagles, and Bengals all gave him a look and moved on quickly. Hackenberg is trying out a new career path.
“I’ve had my trials and tribulations with the NFL” “I’m sitting here at 25. I feel like I have a lot left in the tank”
The baseball path is one a lot of people are going to. Michael Jordan did it back in the day. Tim Tebow is the latest to try his hand. Like Tebow, Hackenberg was obviously a former quarterback. I would say Hackenberg had a much better arm. He just might end up beaming a few hitters accidentally.
The former Penn State quarterback did play in high school so he’s not super far removed. He is 25 so it’s not too late to actually make an impact here. I won’t totally rule it out. If you want to check out his stats, feel free. They’re actually pretty good.
Who would have thought 2020 looked like this in the baseball world. Christian Hackenberg is trying to play baseball when there is no baseball to be played. We just had a 5 round draft in a wild turn of events. The players association and owners are fighting. People are crying about sign stealing. What a mess! I’ve officially seen more pitches from Hackenberg than MLB games this year.
