The Leafs Need To Fire John Klingberg Into The Sun
Let’s just call a spade a spade; John Klingberg sucks. There is absolutely no reason why any NHL should employ Klingberg to play among their defense core. Klingberg brings absolutely nothing to the table unless you’re trying to tank. Then he certainly will help you lose.
There is really only one answer here. The Leafs need to fire Klingberg directly into the sun. The guy is totally unplayable. He’s the worst defensive defenseman in the league and it’s not even arguable.
The stats back it up.
The eye test backs it up.
I have absolutely no idea what Brad Treliving was thinking when he signed Klingberg. They didn’t just sign Klingberg. They gave this guy $4.1 million and he’s totally unplayable. The good news is it does seem like the Leafs are kinda paying attention. It seems like the Leafs are on the verge of making him a healthy scratch.
The sad part is this Leafs team is really good. William Nylander is so gross in a good way. Auston Matthews is a goal machine. Matthew Knies is a really nice young player with promise. Joe Woll is playing well despite the terrible defense in front of him. In reality, this should be an easy fix. I just hope they’re willing to acknowledge it and fix the mistake.
This reminds me on a separate side note. Ryan Reaves is a problem right now too. The only difference is he’s on the 4th line so he’s not on the ice as often. I genuinely don’t know what that guy brings to the table at this stage of his career.
