Carlo Ancelotti Owes His Real Madrid Career To Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has claimed that he would not have his current job in the Spanish capital if it were not for his former player Sergio Ramos.

During Ancelotti’s first stint as Madrid manager between 2013 and 2015, Ramos was a key player in the back for the Italian manager’s side. However, it was an attacking moment from Ramos that Ancelotti is so thankful for today.

In the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final against Atlético Madrid, it was Ramos’s headed goal in the 93rd minute that prolonged the game and allowed Real Madrid to win in extra time. It was, and still is, one of the most famous goals in the club’s history, which is saying something.

Now, as Ancelotti prepares to face his former player when Real Madrid takes on Sevilla on Saturday, the Italian has expressed nothing but gratitude for Ramos.

“I’d love to see [Ramos] and say hello,” Ancelotti said. “I have affection for all the players I’ve had, but above all I have special affection for him. If I’m here today it’s because of Sergio Ramos. If he hadn’t scored the goal in the [Champions League] final, I probably wouldn’t be here. For that, and for everything he did for this club, everybody has a lot of affection for him… He’ll play well for sure. Let’s hope he doesn’t score but if he does, he can [celebrate] however he wants!”

Real Madrid currently sits on top of the La Liga standings with 24 points after nine games. A superb start to Jude Bellingham‘s Real Madrid career has carried Los Blancos to their great league start, and the club will look to pick up all three points this weekend before next Saturday’s El Clásico clash at Barcelona.
