Mets Fire Buck Showalter

David Stearns clearly doesn’t care what Francisco Lindor thinks. The Mets shortstop made it clear that he wanted Buck Showalter back in the dugout in 2024. He’s not going to get his wish. The Mets are parting ways with their manager as Showalter has been shown the door.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post was the first to report the news:

Stearns is the new man in charge with the Mets. This move really isn’t super surprising. He’s going to want his guy as the manager instead of dealing with Buck. Buck was a good hire during the stretch where the Mets needed a culture change. Now it only makes sense to get Stearns the hire he wants. Stearns is a big analytical mind so I would imagine the Mets are going to go in that route with their next hire.

What’s next for Buck? Could he go back to MLB Network? He worked there once before. At the age of 67, it remains to be seen if he gets another job as a manager. Tony La Russa got hired when he was 800 years old so I guess you can’t rule it out.

Let us know in the comments. Do you think this was a smart move by the Mets? Who should they hire to fill his spot? I would hire Jason Varitek but that’s just me. Maybe Varitek isn’t interested and just wants to stay with the Sox until that job opens. It’s still a call worth making. We’ll see who ends up getting the gig.
