Jiri Prochazka, Alex Pereira title bout set for UFC 295

A title fight has been added to UFC 295. The event currently has a heavyweight title fight between MMA GOAT Jon Jones and legend Stipe Miocic as the main event. Now, a light heavyweight title fight between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira will serve as the co-main event. UFC CEO Dana White made the fight official on Twitter Wednesday.

UFC 295 will take place on Nov. 11, 2023, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y.

The light heavyweight division has been a mess for nearly a year, starting at UFC 282 when Prochazka suffered a shoulder injury and was forced to vacate the title. In the face of an absent champion, Jamahal Hill was the fighter to earn the championship belt; however, he too was forced to vacate the title after suffering a torn Achilles. At UFC 295, the division will have a champion once again.

Prochazka has returned from his devastating shoulder injury in less than a year. As promised when he vacated the title, he will slide right back into championship contention.

It did not take long for Pereira to earn a light heavyweight title fight after leaving the middleweight division. At UFC 290, he defeated former champion Jan Blachowicz and made it abundantly clear he deserves a title shot.

Pereira will have an opportunity to make history at UFC 295. If the former middleweight champion wins the light heavyweight title, he will be the ninth fighter in UFC history to win a title in two different weight classes.

UFC 295 became an amazing card with the addition of Prochazka and Pereira. It is incredibly rare to see a heavyweight and light-heavyweight title bout on the same card. In addition to that, legacies are on the line and history could be made. The event will be one to remember.
