Report: Cavs president Koby Altman arrested, charged with OVI

Cleveland Cavaliers executive Koby Altman was arrested Friday night and charged with operating a vehicle impaired (OVI), according to the FOX 8-I Team in Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday morning.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said Altman, who turns 41 today, was charged with “committing a marked lanes violation and OVI,” after they reportedly stopped Altman just before 9 p.m. local time Friday on Route 2 near East 55th in Cleveland.

“Troopers initiated a traffic stop and during their interaction with the driver indicators of impairment were observed,” Ohio State Highway Patrol said. “The driver was subsequently placed under arrest for OVI and soon after offered a breath test which he refused.

“Throughout the traffic stop, Altman was respectful and cooperative with troopers.”

The Cavaliers issued a statement Saturday, according to Fox 8, regarding the arrest and charges.

“We are aware of an incident involving Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations Koby Altman. We are currently gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Thus, there’s no word on whether any league or team punishment–such as a hefty fine, possible suspension or him being fired–will be placed on Altman.

Koby Altman joined the Cleveland Cavaliers front office in 2012. He eventually became the team’s general manager ahead of the 2017-18 season (replacing David Griffin) and was promoted to being the team’s president during the 2021-22 season. When he assumed the Cavs’ president of basketball operations role, he signed a long-term extension that will keep him under contract through the 2027-28 season.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
