Aaron Rodgers: What Does Torn Achilles Mean For Fantasy Football?

You can’t even make this stuff up. The Jets season is over (despite the win) before it ever began. Aaron Rodgers has a torn Achilles and will miss the rest of the season. It sucks but fantasy football is a game that we have to navigate regardless of the games we’re dealt. How does the Rodgers injury affect fantasy managers for the rest of the season?

The group least affected by this is the running back room of Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook. Despite trailing for a large portion of the game, the two combined for 23 carries. Zach Wilson only had 21 passing attempts the entire game. Without Rodgers, the Jets will probably go back to the ground and pound formula trying to rely on that defense to win games. The Jets may score less often but the volume for running back attempts probably will raise. If someone in your league panics and wants to sell Hall and or Cook for a discount, you should jump at it.

Regardless of the ridiculous catch that Garrett Wilson made yesterday, this is disastrous for his stock.

He’s not going to be able to do this every week. Taking Rodgers away really kills his value. Wilson will still rack production but not close to the degree had Rodgers been on the field. I’d actually be okay selling on Wilson if I got a really good offer in return. Great player, but this passing offense is going to torpedo.

The secondary receivers lose almost all of their value. Allen Lazard goes from sneaky flex play to bye week fill in. Mecole Hardman goes from sneaky bench guy to droppable. Ditto for Tyler Conklin.

If you have balls and play in a two quarterback league, Wilson now obviously has to be rostered. Don’t expect the world but there may be certain matchups were he produces for you. I expect Wilson to at least be more functional than a year ago. Even if it’s only marginally.
