2023 NFL Season: Week 1 Overreactions

We are officially complete with Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, which means we’re going to completely overreact. Let’s dive into it!

Tua Tagovailoa is a top-10 quarterback in NFL

The debate is over. Tua Tagovailoa is a top 10 QB in football and it’s not arguable. The people who hate Tua are nothing more than uneducated dopes at this point. There isn’t anything more that needs to be seen. If you want to hold concussions against him knock yourself out. The guy that’s actually on the field is very very good. The people saying otherwise are just ignorant at this point.

Matt Canada should be banned from the NFL

Am I a Pittsburgh Steelers fan? Yes. This much is known. But after the terrible performance from the offense against the San Francisco 49ers, I am now a grumpy, bitter Steelers fan. Realistically, he should’ve been fired during the off-season, but now he is actively stunting the development of the great young players in this offense, and that should lead to a permanent ban from the NFL. I don’t know if an XFL team would take him either.

Was I way too low on the Los Angeles Rams?

I was very low on the Rams during the off-season, but after Week 1 that might’ve been a mistake. The defense looked sharp, Matthew Stafford looked refreshed and similar to his old self again, and the Cooper Kupp injury didn’t look to slow this offense at all. I might’ve been a tad too low on the Rams, we’ll see.

The Green Bay Packers are a playoff team

I pegged the Packers as a playoff team heading into the season, and I felt even more vindicated after Week 1. Jordan Love missed a few throws he’d like to have back, but still looked promising–throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns in his second career start without Christian Watson. Their ground game struggled, but Aaron Jones still looked spry in space while Romeo Doubs, rookie Luke Musgrave and Jayden Reed all showed out at different points. Plus, Green Bay’s defense was also spectacular at all three levels. The Packers own a very manageable schedule and all they need is Love to be passable, which he was in Week 1.

Dallas’ Defense is the best in the league. They straight-up dominated and got dawgs all over the field. They slaughtered the Giants.

Seattle Seahawks aren’t that good at all. The Rams were sought as a team that would be in the Caleb Williams race, and they killed the Seahawks. Geno Smith is not a good quarterback and the Seahawks are in trouble.

Tyreek Hill will break the single-season receiving yards record

Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins offense looked magnificent last Sunday. His route running, body control and hands looked top-tier against the Chargers. Hill being the fastest player on the field is a phenomenal advantage. Calvin Johnson has the record right now, but I think Hill could reach 2,000 yards this season. The Dolphins would need to be in a decent amount of shootouts, Tua to play great like he did and, unfortunately, probably some bad games from Jaylen Waddle. I think the Cheetah has a shot.

Jordan Love will be a quality quarterback

The Green Bay Packers put up 38 points against the Chicago Bears in week one. In victory, Jordan Love played solid football. On the stat sheet, Love finished with 15 completions on 27 attempts for 245 yards and three touchdowns. He was nothing special, but he proved to be competent. I doubt he will grow into an elite quarterback, but he is clearly good enough to get the job done. That bodes well for a Packers’ team that is looking to be competitive in the NFC North.

Jack Sabin

The Chiefs will miss the playoffs if this receiving core is not addressed in some way. Travis Kelce coming back will help but relying on a 34-year-old staying healthy the entire year is never a recipe for success and we saw how bad it can get without Kelce already. The Chiefs desperately need another weapon on the outside. Without it, this offense will be nowhere near its full potential.
