Breaking: Nick Bosa and 49ers Agree To Mega Extension

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a 5-year, $170 million deal with Nick Bosa, Adam Schefter reported Wednesday. The contract also includes $122.5 million in guaranteed money, trumping his older brother Joey Bosa, who has the second highest amount at $102 million, per Spotrac.

His massive contract also includes a $50 million signing bonus, Tom Pelissero reported. Another record for a defensive player.

The deal has Bosa’s salary at $34 million, making him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, surpassing Aaron Donald’s $31.67 million. He truly earned it.

Bosa is coming off a dominant season in which he posted 18.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 48 QB hits, and 2 forced fumbles. He won NFL Defensive Player of the Year and made First Team All-Pro.

The star defensive end had been holding out for several weeks and missed almost all of training camp as he awaited a new deal. The current NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement calls for Bosa to be fined $40,000 for every day of training camp that he misses. His holdout came at a cost, but he got his deal.

Back in June, before training camp began, Bosa downplayed his contract situation.

It’s pretty high. I think I am pretty confident about that. I think I’ll get what I deserve,” Bosa told reporters back in in June about his confidence level that a new deal would get done soon. He did indeed.

This news comes as a reminder that Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones has still not received a contract. With Bosa resetting the market, it might be even more difficult for both sides to reach an agreement.

Nick Bosa will certainly be playing at a high level for the next five years, and the 49ers are hopeful that they can reach multiple Super Bowls within that time frame.
