Chris Grier says Jaylen Waddle is untouchable

A report earlier Wednesday revealed that the Indianapolis Colts discussed trading running back Jonathan Taylor to the Miami Dolphins, but were asking for young superstar wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in return. But Dolphins general manager Chris Grier wanted to make it very clear that Waddle isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

“Jaylen Waddle would not be available, no matter who they’re calling to talk about,” Grier said, according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques.

Immediately after this report went out, Grier wanted to ensure that everyone knew just how much they value Waddle, and for good reason too. In two seasons, he has racked up 179 receptions for 2371 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The pairing of him and Tyreek Hill makes up arguably the best receiver duo in the entire NFL, something that has boded well for this Dolphins team and specifically Tua Tagovailoa. They had one of the best offenses in the NFL last season before Tua missed time with his concussions.

It’s no surprise the Dolphins are adamant about keeping Jaylen Waddle in Miami. I just find it funny that the Colts ever thought that this trade was going to go through.

I’d imagine it’s a pretty short list of players the Colts could offer for the Dolphins to even entertain the idea of moving Waddle–safe to say Jonathan Taylor is nowhere near that list. A running back coming off an injury that you’ll have to pay at the end of the year, while also having to give up at least a first-round pick just to trade for him? Or, in the case of the Dolphins, Jaylen Waddle?

It’s no surprise Grier wants to stay as far away from this trade as possible. You would have to be brain-dead to even think about making this trade.

But for now, Taylor remains on the PUP list and likely won’t play too many games in 2023. With the Colts seemingly not budging on their asking price either, it doesn’t seem like Taylor will be moved this year via trade.
