WWE Superstar LA Knight breaks his silence on comparisons to The Rock

LA Knight has quickly become one of the most popular WWE stars despite constant comparisons to The Rock and Stone Cold.

Knight’s no stranger to the game and has had a lengthy career until now, with successful tenures in MLW and TNA Impact. But, now it seems that he’s finally hit his big break at 40, after quickly getting over with fans. LA Knight’s promos and persona have been praised by many, but at the same time, he’s been called a rip-off of either The Rock or Stone Cold.

In a recent interview with Inside The Ropes, LA Knight addressed the many comparisons he’s had over his career.

“You know, when I first started, people would say, ‘Oh, he sounds like The Rock or he sounds like Austin, or even my very first set of gear, I had red and yellow, ‘Oh, he’s being Hulk Hogan.’ I’m 100% influenced by those guys, absolutely. I’m influenced by Flair. I’m influenced by Savage. I’m influenced by Jake the Snake,” LA Knight said, according to WrestlingNews.co. “At the end of the day, you put all that together, you get that conglomeration, you got yourself LA Knight.”

In conclusion, Knight added that he can see where the comparisons between him and The Rock come from. However, he pointed out that he sees many stars regurgitating the same gimmicks and catchphrases from two decades ago. LA Knight pointed out how these very same stars aren’t being called out like he is. Either way, it seems like the star is on an upward trajectory at this stage.

During his time in NWA, LA Knight captured the promotion’s tag team championships alongside James Storm. During this time, he notoriously cut his “Shoes of a Champion” promo with a bottle of champagne. For years, fans have fondly joked about the segment, but now NWA owner Billy Corgan has revealed that the star was actually drunk.

In his recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Corgan laughed after Van Vliet brought up the promo, and admitted that LA Knight was not sober during the segment.

“I think they were doing something with champaign, and he was clearly intoxicated,” he said.

According to Billy Corgan, LA Knight would have gone on to win the NWA World Championship had he stayed on with the promotion. While he’s now finding success in WWE, Corgan is happy about the star’s progress. It remains to be seen if Knight will end up capturing the WWE Championship or not, but the fans certainly believe he should.
