Scott Turner Impressed With Dwayne Haskins

What should we make of Dwayne Haskins heading into year 2? Personally, I don’t he was given a fighting chance with the Redskins as a rookie. Now with Ron Rivera, Haskins at least has a stable head coach. Scott Turner comes in as the offensive coordinator. Thus far, Turner is impressed with his Sophomore quarterback.

“When we’re talking to him [on Zoom sessions], he’s speaking the language,” Turner said, via ESPN. “It’s pretty easy to tell if they get it or not. Dwayne’s doing a great job.”

“You can tell he’s putting the work in away from the meeting time,” Turner said. “Obviously as a coach and putting in this new offense, I’d love to have more time with him. I think that we’re doing a great job with making the most of the situation.”

Make of that as you will. Sure, it’s a zoom meeting so maybe this is nothing. I do think Haskins’ struggles were a bit overblown a year ago. The former Ohio State product registered as the 2nd most accurate passer (63.6 percent) 20 plus yards down the field. The problem is he actually came in at 33.3 percent because of 4 drops and 7 pass deflections. The Redskins have bad weapons. Terry McLaurin is the only reliable target they have and he was a rookie last year.

So, what Dwyane Haskins are we getting in 2020? That remains to be seen. The good news is, he no longer has a head coach that hates him, that ends up getting fired midseason, and thrown into a game without any warning or practice time. I can’t wait to see Haskins this year.
