Kenny Albert Is A Very Underappreciated Broadcaster

Shoutout Kenny Albert! The longtime broadcaster holds a very impressive title. Along with being the son of the legendary Marv Albert, Kenny is the only person who broadcasts all four of the major North American pro sports. No one else can say that. Some, like Mike Breen and Doc Emrick, are masters of their craft in a single sport. However, Kenny has built an incredibly impressive–and honestly underappreciated–career. Quite literally all sports fans are gonna miss him when he’s gone.

He coined the phrase “the silver trophy to the Golden Knights” after Vegas went all the way and won the Stanley Cup this year; 2023 marks his third straight Stanley Cup Final as the lead voice. He took the reigns after Doc’s retirement in 2020 and called one for NBC before taking the past two as TNT’s lead hockey commentator.

Elsewhere, he calls football and baseball games for Fox Sports. When he’s not calling Knicks and Rangers games live on MSG, he’ll do it on the radio for 98.7 ESPN. You simply can’t find other broadcasters like him. Before his gig with TNT, Kenny also called the Cup Final on the radio for Westwood One. His accolades and appearances simply go on and on.

There’s no doubt Marv Albert is one of the greatest basketball commentators we’ve ever heard. He has a signature voice and some absolutely unforgettable lines. Furthermore, Marv is a pioneer who stood the test of time for decades on-air. He retired in 2021 after a career that stood for nearly five decades as the gold standard of this industry.

However, I think his son is equally as impressive and respectable. He’s been with Fox since their huge acquisition of the NFL’s TV rights in 1994. Subsequently, he is a part of a very small group of founders of the NFL on Fox as they celebrate their 30th anniversary this season. From my perspective, as someone born in 2001 in the NYC area, he is an integral part of my experience as a sports fan and someone I’ve listened to since childhood.

Like his dad before him, Kenny Albert has put together a career at the highest level of broadcasting for an incredibly long time. Fortunately for all of us, it appears that he’s still going to be calling games for years to come. Thank you for everyone you’ve done and everything you continue to do sir!
