Mark Canha Traded To Milwaukee Brewers

Mark Canha is the latest Met to leave town! This time, it’s the Milwaukee Brewers taking part in the Queens firesale. The Mets are sending their former utility man to the brew crew for AAA Pitcher Justin Jarvis. Andy Martino of SNY confirmed the return for Steve Cohen’s team:

The teardown is far from over at Citi Field. It is very possible that reigning CY Young winner Justin Verlander is next on the block following his comments on the front office earlier today.

Cahna is a shrewd pickup for a Brewers team looking to make a run at the NL Central. Jarvis was their No. 30 prospect according to MLB.com and has struggled since his rise from AA to AAA. For reference, he’s given up 17 hits and a 10.80 ERA in 11.2 innings of Triple-A ball pitched.

Canha will return to a small-market team after spending the past two seasons in orange and blue. Like many other Mets, he’s having a down year. In 89 games played, the former Athletic has crushed six home runs and 29 RBIs with .245/.343/.381 lines and a .725 OPS. He does, however, present a clear upgrade over the likes of Joey Wiemer and Blake Perkins in the outfield.

Who Is Next?

The Mets could look a radically different team by the time tomorrow’s deadline approaches. There are still guys like Tommy Pham, Daniel Vogelbach, David Peterson and the aforementioned Verlander on the trade list among even more names.

What’s also become clear is Cohen’s willingness to eat salary on all of the outgoings. Obviously, he was probably hoping not to sell about seven or eight months ago, but here we are. The season went about as far away from planned as possible but he’s paying up to rebuild and sell the right way.
